The Student Affairs Supervisor will be responsible for the mental wellness support and governance of student communities, ensuring a healthy, supportive, and compliant student environment.
The Student Affairs Supervisor oversees the mental wellness, behavioural governance, and overall student support framework across assigned residences. The role involves operational leadership, crisis and wellness management, disciplinary administration, stakeholder relations, and data-driven evaluation of student wellness programmes.
General Operations
Mental Wellness Support
- Identify, triage, and support students experiencing mental health challenges.
- Respond to crises through engagement, assessment, intervention, and follow-up.
- Maintain monthly documentation and tracking of all mental wellness cases.
- Supervise the in-residence social worker programme and liaise with respective universities.
- Engage with mental health service providers to ensure consistent support for student communities.
- Ensure alignment with university support structures and external mental wellness organisations (e.g., SADAG, Heal SA, Higher Health, Kaelo).
- Mentor and supervise student social workers.
- Provide support to residence leadership teams when necessary.
Student Governance & Discipline
- Ensure policies, procedures, and governance protocols are updated and implemented consistently.
- Oversee the student disciplinary process and ensure hearings and case resolutions are timely.
- Participate in disciplinary committees and hearings.
- Track and report monthly on student disciplinary incidents.
- Ensure all incidents are accurately captured on the Hi-Res system.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Implement structured communication plans for mental health and governance messaging.
- Ensure students are consistently aware of wellness support channels and helplines.
- Engage university bodies to support the Social Work Programme and student governance frameworks.
- Identify and maintain partnerships with mental health organisations.
Administration, Assessment & Programme Input
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive student wellness database.
- Capture, archive, and update student wellness data for research and reporting purposes.
- Prepare monthly reports on mental wellness and governance trends.
- Produce bi-annual industry trend reports and contribute research insights.
- Support training, presentations, and workshops on student wellness and programme impact.
- Develop training plans for residence staff and student leadership teams.
- Evaluate wellness programme effectiveness and support evidence-based improvements.
- Manage the wellness programme budget effectively.
- Conduct comparative analyses across residences to identify behavioural trends.
- Engage in research-informed practice and contribute practice-informed research.
Requirements
- University degree (Social Work, Psychology, Student Affairs, or related).
- Minimum 2 years in social work or student wellness.
- Minimum 1 year administrative experience (preferred).
- Student leadership experience (preferred).
- Familiarity with Hi-Res (advantageous).
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle (essential).
